✡ There is no doubt in the movie of  ‘Hamlet’  to faithful to the original play in dialogues though there  are vast differences in settings and background also which attract to audience a lot.
✡ I think after watching movie, there is the most clear picture of the characters and situations. We can’t imagine the behavior , pitch of language while we are reading.

Examples :

While we are reading Hamlet’s character, we can’  imagine his behavior in particular situations .How suddenly he becomes  angry  and though he control his emotions and feelings .we clearly see that what kinds of expression and voice of  language. Sometimes  it is possible for us that we do not turn at soon  one scene to another but movie defines it very well.

✡ Yes, I   feel ‘aesthetic delight’ while scene of ‘Grave Digging ‘takes place in movie because I think somewhere I get ‘comic relief’ also . and that is described the ordinary people as  intellectual.
✡ I have different kind of feeling with every characters. I have sympathy  for Ophelia  because she gets madness,  for Polonius , and while Hamlet  died , I feel Catharsis.

)When at the beginning  of the movie, we  see the Hamlet’s  statue that represents that it is the most important part of the whole play without dialogue . it is interconnection of the story.  One can decide that there is the story of Royal family.

And at the end of the story, when Statue breaks down to dust means.. now in Denmark  there is no race of his family.  In Denmark, there is the New  Sunrise of the king.  Breaks down Hamlet’s statue shows the ‘ CIRCLE OF LIFE.’

9)While studying the play through movie, I apply Formalist approach and Moral and Philosophical approach. Because in Formalist approach, we see that there is the vast differences in “ What Hamlet wants to do ? and What he does? Hamlet traps in situation and he constantly thinks only what he wants to do  but he can’t do anything until the final scene.  We find hamlet as ‘Every man’.

In Moral and Philosophical approach, we find that because of this approach, Hamlet delays his revenge.
Example:  while Claudius prayer to God –Almighty , Hamlet thinks and he can’t kill his uncle while he does prayer because of his high morality thinking.

10) I apply Psychological approach and Moral and Philosophical approach  in pre- viewing task in the play. In psychological approach , I find the struggle between conscious and subconscious mind of Hamlet and gets the madness. There is conflict between high morality and practicality.

  • ·         How faithful is the movie to the original play?
  • ·         After watching the movie, have your perception about play, characters or situations changed?
  • ·         Do you feel ‘aesthetic delight’ while watching the movie? If yes, exactly when did it happen? If no, can you explain with reasons?
  • ·         Do you feel ‘catharsis’ while or after watching movie? If yes, exactly when did it happen? If no, can you explain with reasons?
  • ·         Does screening of movie help you in better understanding of the play?
  • ·         Was there any particular scene or moment in the movie that you will cherish lifetime?
  • ·         If you are director, what changes would you like to make in the remaking of movie on Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’?
  • In the beginning of the movie, camera rolls over the statue of King Hamlet out side the Elsinore castle. The movie ends with the similar sequence wherein the statue of the King Hamlet is hammered down to the dust. What sort of symbolism do you read in this? (Clue: In Book IX of 'Paradise Lost', Satan reflects on his revenge motive:       "But what will not ambition andrevenge; Descend to? Who aspires must down as low; As high he soared, obnoxious, first or last, To basest things. Revenge, at first though sweet, Bitter ere long back on itself recoils." Is it not King Hamlet's ambition to avenge his death responsible for the downfall of his kingdom which is symbolically pictured in last scenes?)
  • While studying the play through movie, which approach do you find more applicable to the play? Why? Give reasons with illustrations.
  • Which of the above mentioned approaches (in Pre-viewing task) appeals you more than other? Why? Give reasons:

Answers:
Here is my answer :

1) I can see that this movie is faithful to the original play because in this movie all the dialogues are spoken by the characters which are in the original play.  So we can say that this is the good movie version of the play of Hamlet.

2)yes, after watching the movie our perception about play characters or situations changed.when i saw the end of the movie Hamlet kill his uncle and he take revenge with his uncle .The end of the film hamlet also died but i satisfy he complete his promise.

3)After the watching movie i  can not feel aesthetic delight ,but at the end  when hamlet takes the revenge i feel aesthetic delight because in the whole movie i was waiting for how hamlet will take the revenge ? And i was waiting for the end the hamlet also take a revenge.

4)Yes, I found catharsis last fighting of the play. In this scene Hamlet and all other character were die. Second I feel catharsis when Ophelia suffers a lot because of his father’s death and misbehave of Hamlet.

5)yes,the screening of the movie is very helpful in better understanding of the play. And it is also helpful to remember the whole play scene by scene. And also helps to remember quotes.

.
6)I remember life time scene that when Hamlet is died and Kenneth Branagh presented the christ image and Ophelia goes mad.this moment in the movie i will cherish lifetime.

7)I just love the flash back technic,so I would like to include it .but the major change I want is that Hamlet and ophelia are together and ruled over the kingdom.

8)  In the beginning of the movie when the camera rolls over the statue of king Hamlet showing his name outside the Elsinore castle we are given a hint by the directed that this movie will something tell about this person and at the end when again we see similar sequence wherein the statue of the King Hamlet is hammered down to the dust we can understand clearly that now the prince Hamlet or the King Hamlet has fully destroyed.

9. ) In this play psychological approach was more applicable. In Hamlet's behavior towards his family and his friends we seemed psychological approach highly.

✡ And also I feel catharsis in this movie when hamlet wants to kill his uncle. At that time pity and fear arouse in my mind.
I also like to share my favorite lines from hamlet :
‘To be or not to be that is the question’
‘true is pity and pity is true’
‘ the play is the thing where I catch the conscious of the king.’
’There are many thing in the world than
                 This philosophy’-Horatio
Thank you sir, for giving me an opportunity through this task to learn from the movie rather than the sack of enjoyment.
